Chesapeake by James Michener

By Fawcett Books (publisher)

Once again James A. Michener brings history to life with this 400-year saga of America's great bay and its Eastern Shore. Following Edmund Steed and his remarkable family, who parallel the settling and forming of the nation, CHESAPEAKE sweeps readers from the unspoiled world of the Native Americans to the voyages of Captain John Smith, the Revolutionary War, and right up to modern times.

Your Memories Shared!

"I have a question--in "Chesapeake", there was child in some school who was exposed to a phrase with only 32 or 33 letters but which contained all 26 letters of our alphabet. It was close to "Pack my box with six dozen packages of liquor jugs" but I am still missing the an f and a v and not sure about the word "packages"--does anyone remember that phrase?"

--FLUCO

"In his book Chesapeake, Michener refers to "roanoke" as an item of value (not a location). I have looked all over the web for a definition of a roanoke. Could one of your correspondents please enlighten me!"

--Albereda
