The Drowning Pool By (Publisher)
Harper, the wisecracking private investigator, goes to New Orleans to
help out an old flame, Iris Deveraux. After the murder of her
mother-in-law, someone implicates Iris and attempts to blackmail her.
Harper has more suspects than he needs - Iris' sixteen-year-old
Lolita-esque daughter, a former chauffer, a businessman and his kinky
wife, and even Iris herself. What he uncovers is a web of tangled affairs
and distractions all clouded by the murky water of the drowning pool.

"Paul Newman working on screen with His wife, Joanne Woodward, is always a treat. While not a slam bang action Film, this Movie's big on character study and 40's noir dialogue. Even the minor players (Melanie Griffith, James Woods) command Your attention. When I saw this in a Theatre there were only 4 or 5 other people there. After seeing it I couldn't understand why. People always complain "Why can't they make 'em like they used to?" They did with this one. [Editor's note: Well put, Michael!]" --Michael C. |
