The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh

By Patrick Mondout

Take a lousy script, add a popular athlete who can't act, poor production values and a terrible title that was not equaled until 1984's Romancing the Stone and what do you have? The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh basketball team can't win a game. What to do? Hire a new coach? Sign a free agent? No! Hire an astrologer! I've been told the drugs were good in the Super70s. Plots like these make me a believer. Still, who could forget the half-time show which feature the disco music of The Sylvers? And if you were a youthful fan of Julius "Dr. J" Erving, you probably loved this film which also featured Jonathan Winters, Meadowlark Lemon, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
