Doors - L.A. Woman RIAA Certified Multi-Platinum! Click here to see this CD at Amazon.com!

By Billy Altman

The last official Doors studio album, L.A. Woman was still high on the charts when, like the "actor out on loan" of its closing track, "Riders on the Storm," Jim Morrison died in a Paris bathtub in the summer of 1971. Via such tracks as "The Changeling," "Crawling King Snake," and the frothy, rollicking title track, the collection leaned heavily toward the blues--in particular, Morrison's boastful "Lizard King" brand of it. It also holds another entry in the band's ever-adventurous tone poems in the ever-underrated mythical tale of American music and culture, "WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)."

Tracks

Your Memories Shared!

"I wore out my L.A Woman cd. This album was great the songs still bring back memories Riders on the storm or L.A Woman or Texas Radio and the big beat. This album is a true classic! L.A Woman is my favorite cruising song!"

--Teddy Bear

"To Mr. Andy Boynton:
L.A. Woman a "minor rock classic"? And The Soft Parade and Waiting for the Sun lackluster efforts? Obviously you were not around when the Doors stormed the airways for five consecutive years providing relief from the Disneyesque Beatles. Try listening to Love Me Two Times from The Soft Parade then try the bluesey Summer's Almost Gone from Waiting for the Sun. You may change your mind. With folks like Billy Idol churning out carbon copies of L.A. Woman it's no wonder the magic has been diluted. Try listening to the orginal after Idol's. Morrison's connections to John Lee Hooker, Sandor Ferenczi, Marshall McLuhan, Friedrich Nietzsche, Norman O. Brown, Franz Kafka make him the only interesting rock celebrity to date.

I can readily accept that another generation can't relate to the dark side of rock and accept the current state of affairs in the good old US of A.
[Editor's note: And we readily accept that you are stuck in an ideal 60s that never existed in the first place. "Stormed the airways"? That describes Tommy James and the Shondells better than it does The Doors, who I love by the way. But Nietsche, McLuhan andů Jim Morrison!!!??? Give us all a giant break!]"
