Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon RIAA Certified Multi-Platinum! Click here to see this CD at!

By Genevieve Williams

Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band.

2. On The Run7. Any Colour You Like
3. Time8. Brain Damage
4. The Great Gig In The Sky9. Eclipse
5. Money

Your Memories Shared!

"I graduated from High School in 1973 and here it is 2002 and my 14 year old son is listening to Pink Floyd. He has all the cd's (we had albums, my kids call them the big cd's), it just amazes me how the music lives on!!"

" The first time I heard Dark Side of the Moon it was in 1973 and I was fascinated by the sound effects and stereo separation. It was incredible listening to those cash registers bouncing back and forth between the speakers. I remember our dog lying on my bed moving his head left and right following the sound of those coins and us laughing hysterically.

We invited our friends over to show them this little "show" as well and as a grand finale, the explosion at the end of "On The Run" would make him jump off the bed and bark like crazy at the speakers! I am happy to say that my teenage kids both enjoy it and have it on their MP3 players. It is truly a work of art!"
