Your Memories Shared!

"You would think that as the follow up to one of the bestselling soundtrack albums of all time "Saturday Night Fever", "Spirits" would be nothing more than another Bee Gees record on the rack. You would have been hugely mistaken. The exuberant sounds and unmistakable falsetto layered harmony, honed by the equally delightful "Main Course" LP only grew richer and by now, less disco-infected. Although still formulaic in approach, "Spirits" score on heady melody hooks and intoxicating vocals. The Bee Gees successfully bridged the Super70s era with three soaring albums; namely "Saturday", "Spirits" and "Children of the world". The run of consecutive billboard number ones also placed them alongside such greats as the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Barry Gibb wasn't too far off the mark years later for comparing "Saturday" album with Michael Jackson's "Thriller" of '82, in terms of the fanfare and most of all, simply great pop albums of any era! However, "Spirits was no slouch either, giving the pop world such memorable Bee Gees standards as "Too Much Heaven", "Tragedy" , "Love you Inside out" . The latter may suffer slightly from a disco hangover but raises the bar for any self-respecting straightforward pop songwriter/arranger in its catchy rhythm and pounding bass line. The slower numbers on the LP while not sing-along material as "How deep is your love" still evoke flaming passions and are great nostalgia tracks for those who lived through the disco decade. "Reaching out" is one track that will send the romantic in you ploughing through the Bee Gees archive collection all over again. I miss the Super70s already…"
