SLA: Angela Atwood

Angela Atwood was a member of the Symbionese Liberation Army known to fellow members as "General Gelina." She and five other SLA members died in a shoot out with police in Los Angeles on May 17, 1974.

Angela DeAngelis grew up in a small town outside Newark, New Jersey. Atwood and later attended the Indiana University. It was there that she met political activists Gary Atwood, who she would marry, and Bill & Emily Harris.

The young couple moved to San Francisco, where Angela, who had studied theatre in Indiana, won a role in a local production of Ibsen's Hedda Gabler. She became friends with another actress from the play with left-leaning politics. Her name was Kathleen Soliah.

Meanwhile, her old friends Bill & Emily Harris decided to move the San Francisco and, after the Atwoods broke up, Angela moved in with the Harrises.
