1974-75 O-Pee-Chee WHA Hockey Cards

O-Pee-Chee released their first separate set of World Hockey Association (WHA) cards for the 1974-75 season. The set features 65 stars plus one card of Gordie Howe and his two sons/teammates; the small set has no subsets.

The ribbon on left of each card is similar to the design being used by Topps for their 1973 football cards (and again in 1979). The player photographs are posed and fairly attractive, though they are in front of unimaginative backgrounds. At least they didn't airbrush wild colors into the background as had been their practice earlier in the decade nor are the backgrounds as bad as those found in the 1973-74 Topps basketball set.

The 10¢ wax packs did not feature special inserts, but instead called attention to the facsimile signatures on the cards themselves.

Though WHA cards had appeared alongside their NHL counterparts for two years running, this set is full of rookie cards - though none are particularly valuable.
