Super Bowl IX

By Wikipedia

Super Bowl IX was a game that matched two of the NFL's best defenses -- Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain against the Purple People Eaters of Minnesota -- and two legendary quarterbacks: Terry Bradshaw and Fran Tarkenton, respectively.

The defenses won the first half, whose only score was a safety forced by the Pittsburgh. A 9-yard run by running back Franco Harris run made it 9-0 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings rallied to 9-6 on a blocked punt for a touchdown before Bradshaw hit tight end Larry Brown from 4 yards out to put the game away.

Harris, who ran for 158 yards and a touchdown, was named the Super Bowl's Most Valuable Player. The game was broadcast on NBC with Curt Gowdy, Al DeRogatis and Don Meredith.
