Pittsburgh TrianglesBy Patrick Mondout
The Pittsburgh Triangles were one of the original World Team Tennis
franchises as well as one of the better ones, winning a title in 1975.
That was the year Elton John sung about Pennsylvania's other WTT
franchise, the Philadelphia Freedoms.
If Elton John was Philly's most well-known fan, the Triangles at least had
Kenny Rogers.
Two weeks after the championship, a grateful Triangles front office
fired Edwards. Evonne Goolagong's new husband made it clear to the owners
that she didn't want to play for him the next season.1 Such was
life in the fledgling league.
