Family AffairBy Persona Non Grata
Wealthy bachelor, Bill Davis (Brian Keith) lived a carefree life in a
luxury Manhattan apartment complete with English butler, Mr. French
(Sebastian Cabot), to cater to his every need. When his brother and
sister-in-law died in an accident, it fell to him to raise their three
children, twins, Buffy (Anissa Jones) and Jody (Johnnie Whitaker), and
their teenaged sister, Cissy (Kathy Garver). Stuffy Mr. French, a
gentleman’s gentleman, was frequently left alone to supervise the
children while Bill was away on business. Rigidly proper, with a penchant
for order, Mr. French nonetheless learned to love his precocious charges.
In the final season, Emily (Nancy Walker) appeared occasionally as the
family’s housekeeper.

It's been so long, but there are three episodes that I recall very clearly.
1) While traveling through Vermont on the way to meet Uncle Bill, Mr. French, Buffy and Jody are trapped in a cabin during a snow storm. It was an excellent episode, more concerned with subtle revelations about the personalities of the characters than sensational events.
2) While going home to Indiana to help Buffy and Jody keep in touch with the memory of their parents, Uncle Bill sacrifices the role of father for the role of loving uncle in the best interest of the children. Well written and well done. I remember while walking down the hall of their parents high school, off center, Brian Keith gently massages Anissa Jones' neck; something I think a real parent would do. One of my happiest revaltions is that Anissa and Brian adored each other, on screen and off.
3) In the last season, 12 year old Anissa portrays the quandry an eight year old must face as to whether to keep her doll or not, the famous Mrs. Beasley in this case. A friend teases her and "Buffy" puts Mrs. Beasley on the shelf. I remember thinking that you can live your life to make other people happy, or live it to make yourself happy. I also appreciated what a terrific actress Anissa Jones was, a girl of almost thirteen portraying a seven year old and making it believable. --Bkohatl | Note: This is just a random sample of the Family Affair messages in our TV forums!
