Roll OutBy alex m & swordfish71421
Roll Out, a lived sitcom, featured the misadventures of the 5050th
supply platoon in WWII France. It was a thinly veiled army version of
McHale's Navy that featured a cast of crafty black N.C.O.s outwitting
their dim-witted white superiors (Ed Begley Jr. was typecast).
Col. 'Sweet' Williams (Stu Gilliam) was the commanding officer, Lt.
Robert W. Chapman (Ed Begley Jr.) was his second in command. It was a
wonderful comedy about a USA combat trucking company (big red one, etc.)
carrying supplies to the front lines, this comedy was far, far ahead of
it's time.
It was one of the most hilarious sitcoms of all times. The Williams is
fixated on throwing darts at a photo of Mussolini, the Italian dictator,
his nemesis. Chapman is the go between for the command side and the
enlisted men, truck drivers, mechanics, etc. who just happened to be the
best and brightest all black comedic cast available at the time, led by
Garrett Morris.
The episodes are all classically funny and have good family moral
values as well, highly entertaining and recommended viewing for all. If I
could only find copies of the show!

I remember the show vaguely. I only ever heard of it when BET would show it in the 80`s. But when I watched it, I laughed and laughed and laughed some more. When BET stopped showin it, I cried, and wondered if it would ever come on video, and now DVD. --Eric | Note: This is just a random sample of the Roll Out messages in our TV forums!
