Any Prentiss
There were a trio of police dramas featuring a female lead that debuted
in the fall of 1974. Unlike Police Woman or
Get Christie Love, Amy Prentiss
was in charge!
The death of the chief of police of the San Francisco Police Department
leaves a vacancy to be filled by the most senior officer. That would be 35
year old widow and single mother Amy Prentiss (Jessica Walter). The
resentment of her less qualified male counterparts plays a major role in
this short-lived series.
Of course, she also proves herself worthy of the promotion but viewers
were perhaps not quite ready for a woman police chief; it was cancelled
after the few episodes that aired as part of the NBC Mystery Movie
rotation were used.
