Faraday and CompanyBy Lassiegal
In 1948, private detective Frank Faraday was in a small South American
country investigating a crime when he was arrested on trumped-up charges
and tossed in jail. Twenty-five years later, he is freed during a
revolution and makes his way to the American embassy. Sent back home to
San Francisco, he discovers his old detective agency is being run by a son
he didn't know he had--his child by his old secretary whom he had been
sweet on. The first thing he does, of course, is finish the investigation
of the crime that got him incarcerated 25 years earlier.
This was a fun series that never quite reached its potential. The hook
was supposed to be that Frank wanted to solve crimes the old way, with
footwork, investigation, and old-fashioned know-how, while his son Steve
was into the latest high-tech (for 1973) methods. A mere four shows were
produced.
Frank was played by Dan Dailey, Steve Faraday by James Naughton, Lou
Carson (Frank's secretary/sweetheart and Steve's mother) by Geraldine
Brooks, and Steve's secretary Holly by Sharon Gless.
