Sons and DaughtersBy Anonymous
Set in the 1950's, Sons and Daughters concerned the relationship
between two high school seniors who have in common a nontraditional family
environment in a very traditional age. The boy's father has recently died,
and the girl's parents have separated (a twist there - its the mother who
left home and is now living openly with another man, the scandal of the
town, while the girl protagonist remains living with her father).
I remember this as a very good show with genuine characters, realistic
situations, and intelligent scripts/dialogue - no wonder it only lasted
one season. The episode I most recall concerned the girls' parents. The
father has steadfastly refused to admit the finality of their breakup,
despite all evidence to the contrary.
When he is contacted by his estranged wife for the first time in ages
he naively/wishfully assumes it is the beginning of a reconciliation, only
to discover that the ex only wants to discuss the logistics of both of
them attending the daughters upcoming graduation without causing a scene.
