White ShadowBy Anonymous
OK, The White Shadow had things that seemed to be unrealistic, like a
coach willing to help solve all of his team's personal problems, or two
white teenage kids in Los Angeles willing to sing in a gym shower with a
bunch of black guys. However, it had a realistic sense to it as well: The
coach busting his team's balls. The off-the-court issues that come up with
teenagers in cities like L.A, and the camaraderie that develops between
teammates (excellent shower moments). The bottom line is that the show was
fully entertaining for the first two years and it still is.
The third and finale season was a little weak in comparison, but I
think that isn't so much because the story lines weren't as good (although
that could be the case), but rather it was just that the chemistry of the
original cast was so good.
Some of the best episodes: Jackson getting caught betting on Carver
games was good. So was the one when Reese went to a different high school
and totally didn't fit in. I'm still waiting for a reunion show. Have
these old men who graduated from Carver in the early 80's play against the
Carver High team of 2001. Ok, maybe not. Question...if you were a coach of
a basketball team, would you really take Abner Goldstein? Me either.'

The episode in which Hayward seeks vengeance for his pal who OD'ed is excellent. Haven't seen it since early Awesome80s. Also dug the Albert Hodges episode-cat returning to school from the slammer.(Remember the abnormal genes/abnormal hormones scene?) Mac Wade episode stands out-All World Caucasian player transfers to Carver, turns out cat's illiterate. This is one of my alltime favorite shows from adolescence. Wasn't former Heisman Trophy winner Charles White a guest star while he was a holdout from the Cleveland Browns? --M&J | Note: This is just a random sample of the White Shadow messages in our TV forums!
