1970-1971 Emmy Awards

By Patrick Mondout

The 1970-1971 Emmys, awarded for programs aired between March 16, 1970 and March 16, 1971, were presented on May 9, 1971 at the Hollywood Palladium and broadcast on NBC. After George C. Scott refused his Oscar in April, everyone assumed he we refuse his expected Emmy for Outstanding Single Performance by a Lead Actor (for The Price - a Hallmark Hall of Fame production) as well. Although he was a no-show for the ceremony (Jack Cassidy accepted on his behalf), he decided to keep the Emmy saying that while the Oscars were a popularity content, the Emmys were more serious because they were voted on by a panel of experts. Right George - whatever!
