Tupolev Tu-154By Patrick Mondout
Tupolev Tu-154The
Tupolev Tu-154 was developed to replace aging Tu-104
jets and Il-18 turboprops on Aeroflot's
medium range routes. The prototype Tu-154, codenamed 'Careless' by NATO,
was rolled out for its first flight on October 4, 1968.
If the Tu-134 was the Soviet DC-9,
the Tu-154 - with its 'T' tail and three tail-mounted engines - was the
Soviet 727.
