"I flew on National Airlines from Washington DC National to Norfolk (via Williamsburg) with my family on a wet morning in August of 1976. In addition to our trip heading to a place under a hurricane watch, I recall that the safety cards on our plane, a Boeing 727, had detailed instructions on what to do in the event the plane ditched on the water. There were few graphics; all the instructions were spelled out from the time an emergency was declared to the time everyone got out of the aircraft.
The airplane was named "Gloria". Less than two years later, a National Airlines Boeing 727 ditched off the coast of Florida. When I watched the television coverage, I thought I recognized the plane which ditched as our plane. Sure enough, it was named "Gloria"." --Anonymous |
