USAir

US Airways, as it is now known, started off in 1939 as All American Airways. By 1953, it was Allegheny Airlines and it remained that way until 1979, when it changed its name to USAir. A pair of tragic crashes in the 1990s led them to change the name to what it remains today.

This airline has expanded largely through acquisitions. It picked up Lake Central Airlines in 1968 and followed in 1972 with Mohawk Airlines. More recently it has bought Piedmont and Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) in 1988 and 1989, respectively.

Slogans: "Allegheny is up to something." "There's a change in the air."

Known Fleet: DC-9s, 737s, A320s.
