Fantastic JourneyBy Steve Michael
'The Fantastic Journey' was about a disparate group of travelers from
various periods in history marooned on a strange island at the heart of
the infamous Bermuda Triangle.
Katie Saylor made the biggest impression on me (well, I was fourteen at
the time!); she played Liana, who had a telepathic bond with her cat
Sil-L, rather like Gary Seven's with Isis (from the 'Star Trek' classic
'Assignment: Earth' ). There was also the late, much-missed Roddy McDowall
as Professor Jonathan Willoway, a Dr. Zachary Smith-type character. Jared
Martin led the group as Varian, a man from the future equipped with a
strange tuning-fork like device. The other two were Ike Eisenmann and Carl
Franklin.
Each week our heroes would enter a new time zone, in search of a way
back to their own eras, only to land in trouble. Joan Collins appeared in
one story, looking as glamorous as ever. And John Saxon was ( what else? )
a thoroughly evil dictator! 'The Fantastic Journey' was, along with Logan's
Run and Man From Atlantis more
popular here in Britain than in the U. S. A. Only ten episodes were made.
Pity. It was perfectly agreeable hokum.
