Paul McCartney - McCartney .gif) By Chris Nickson
Paul's first solo outing is very much a homegrown affair with him
singing and playing everything (apart from a few harmonies by Linda). The
expectations were high, and while not everything clicked, there was enough
good stuff for the legend to continue. "That Would Be
Something," "Man We Was Lonely," "The Lovely
Linda," and "Teddy Boy" all make the grade, but everything
is eclipsed by "Maybe I'm Amazed," which remains one of his most
enduring songs, up there with anything the Beatles released (and which
would have sounded quite at home on Let It Be).

"For the longest time, Paul's "McCartney" album was my all time favorite of his solo career. I guess because it felt so much like "Let It Be", and being such a die-hard Beatle fan, it just made it all the more interesting.
This album is definitely what you might call a "demo" type album, in the sense that it's very raw, in some ways unpolished, and obviously NOT a Beatles album.
But after saying that, you begin to see just who artistic and experimentive Paul was in the stuido. With songs like "Oo You", "Momma Miss America", "Every Night" and "Junk", the listener is given a very simplistic view of Paul's talent. It's not the over-the-top dubbing and producing as was commonplace on Beatle albums, but the heart and solo are still there.
And of course, who can deny one of Paul's greatest songs ever, the beautiful "Maybe I'm Amazed". This song still continues to "amaze" me even 15 years after my first listen.
To sum it all up, "McCartney" is simply a basic, from the heart type album that most Beatle fans would enjoy." --Cornelius |
