"This was and remains, the quintessential Elton John album. Every song on it is supurb and relects a sophistication and expression that will gradually fade from his later works. This recording, along with Mad Man Across the Water are Elton and Bernie at the top of their game. In 1970 Elton was a musician in his purest form, free from the commercial trappings that would over-shaddow his later works. The best song on the album, "Your Song" reveals an intimacy that haunts the listener as it takes you to some far away English village and fills your mind with visions of green hills and damp earth. This was that album that drew so many of us to Elton's work and kept us there through the entire "Captan Fantastic" debacle." --RJ Talley | "I never new that there was an album named after my birth date. Pretty cool." --Anonymous | "Today is the 30th anniversary of the recording date! What raw energy and excitement must have filled the small
recording studio, as Elton and his band showed a little part of America all his brand new tunes. I plan to spin it
tonight, with my wife Marisha, and relive those incredible times. Hope you do, too." --Russell Farley |
