"I picked this recording up on vinyl one day in a used record store, and it has become one of my favourite Carpenters records.
Side 1 is full of "new" Carpenters songs...familiar singles like Sing and Jambalaya (On The Bayou). I Can't Make Music is a song that was never a single, but its catchy melody has made it one of my favourites. This Masquerade is another one of my favourites.
And then you flip it over and you get a quick education in some of the great songs of the 1960s. I never was very big on medleys...but this medley of old songs is simply the best I've ever heard. It starts out with a new song for them at the time called Yesterday Once More and then the rest of the record becomes a Goldies Oldies radio station complete with the DJ and a contest and some fantastic Carpenters arrangements of old tunes. It's definitely the most exciting and interesting Carpenters album you'll come across. Richard's ingenious multi-track recording techniques really shine on this album." --Anonymous | "Perhaps the best album The Carpenters ever released!! It combines outstanding arranging with an all-star song selection. I've found this LP to be the most listened to of the Carpenters in my entire collection of over 1,000 albums. Makes me appreciate the quality of Karen's voice and Richard's backup skills." --chetmars | "This album embraces the listener with Karen's exquisite voice as the Carpenters look back at the years gone by. Her heart-wrenching vocals wrapped around the words in the song I Can't Make Music were only an omen of what was to come. Unfortunately, the house featured on the cover is the same one where Karen's mother found her unconsious in the bedroom closet upstairs." --Doug | "This is a totally awesome album. Great variety of songs and, as usual, Karen's voice is angelic! You just can't beat their sound!!!" --Anonymous | "Great album, innovative. Karen had the best voice for any song. Impossible to find another voice with such richness and depth as Karen's voice." --Alberto |
