Elton John - Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy RIAA Certified Multi-Platinum! Click here to see this CD at Amazon.com!

By Rob O'Connor

Elton John has always liked having it both ways. He's flamboyant and vain, yet empathetic and sincere. He sits at his piano playing sentimental melodies, but the words come not from inside his soul but from friend Bernie Taupin. For Captain Fantastic, he and Taupin wrote a concept album which sketches their career together. "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is easily the strongest song outside of the concept. The addition of several songs "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" featuring John Lennon, "Philadelphia Freedom," and "One Day at a Time" blow the concept but up the entertainment value considerab

"Elton John's "Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy" was a huge part of my life's soundtrack as a kid growing up in 1970's suburbia ... countless hours were whiled away in my friends basement after school, talking about school, cars, hockey and girls while Captain Fantastic spun in the background. When I need a trip back to more innocent times, I play this album. It always makes me smile and can even make me a little "misty" sometimes. Still "Fantastic" after all these years!"

--The Kid from Mt. Pearl, Nfld.

"I received this album as a bithday gift in June of '75 and was instantly taken with it's great sound and concept. Definitely one of the best albums in Elton's career. The whole band is in top notch form. I had been buying Elton's albums from Madman Across the Water on and was always taken by the ever changing sound and depth of talent from Elton,Bernie and the Band. Although many could argue, for me Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy stands as the best Elton John album. I know also that Elton wanted a change but I could never fully understand why he broke up the band after recording the album. Never again would he reach this peak musically."

"I still feel this one of his better albums. Everytime I get a chance to listen to this album, especially "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", I began to think of some of the more innocent times of my own personal life."

--Happylife1000

"This has got to be one of my all time favorite Elton John "album". A neighbor gave me this "album" when I was 8 or 9 years old. I was fascinated by the cover artwork. I am now 37 years old. I still know every song by "heart". This album is definitely one of the soundtracks of my life"

"I think this album ROCKS. I can't believe that after 20 plus years I am jamming this CD in my vehicle. The songs are awesome, the guitar parts totally awesome and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. Tower of Babel and Meal Ticket are bopth solid rockers. We all far in love a cool ballad."

"I was 9 my parents just broke up, needless to say it wasn't a happy time. This album through the cassette and now the CD, was then and continues to be a large part of my life. From Captain through Curtains there isn't a weak song. His band by far was and still is the most underated, under appreciated musicians of the Super70s. Davey Johnsons guitars, Nigel Olsen drumming, and the late Dee Murray thumping bass lines more than compliment Eltons superior piano playing. My kids even love it. When they added the Bonus tracks I got Dr Winston O'Boogie on Lucy in the sky. Mr. O'Boogie was John Lennon. I could go on and on this one is a true classic. "
