This is Tom Jones

By Patrick Mondout

Welsh pop star Tom Jones had his own musical variety show in the late sixties and early Super70s. Called This is Tom Jones (also known as the Tom Jones Show), the hour long show was more hip than other shows, such as Ed Sullivan.

The first episodes were shot in London though they alternated between sides of the Atlantic after that and featured both British and American artists.

Tom ended each show with a typically brassy number we all remember him for. Then he'd say, in Welsh, "Gwyn eich byd a dymunaf i chwi lawenydd bob amser." Some at first thought he was trying to get one past the censors, but it simply meant, "May you always be well and be happy."
