That's My Mama

This was an amusing sitcom a family and their friends anchored by an opinionated, but loving woman. Mama's advice wasn't always taken, but in the end, everyone always recognized that she was right. Mama (Theresa Merritt) was a widow who shared a house with her son Clifton (Clifton Davis), a swinging bachelor. Clifton was a barber who ran his late father's barbershop, which was conveniently next door to the house. His best friend was Earl (Teddy Wilson), an often clueless mailman. Earl later gave up delivering mail and joined his buddy Clifton in the hair cutting business.

Clifton's younger sister Tracy (Lynn Moody, and later, Joan Pringle) was a sensible woman married to Leonard (Lisle Wilson), an uptight, stick-in-mud accountant. Tracy would often side with Mama against Clifton's schemes. Leonard's stuffiness and lack of street smarts made him the constant butt of Clifton and Earl's antics. Junior (Ted Lange) was a neighborhood resident who would blow in and out of the barbershop like a tornado, telling stories about another crazy situation he has been involved in. Josh (DeForest Covan) and Wildcat (Jeister Harrison) were two older men who hung out in the barbershop.

They never seemed to get their hair cut, but they made plenty of funny comments about what went on around them. Unfortunately, this sitcom only lasted a couple of seasons on ABC. Clifton Davis wrote "Never Can Say Goodbye", which was a hit for the Jackson Five (and Gloria Gaynor), and went on to appear in the series, "Amen". Jeister Harrison also appeared on "Amen", in another supporting wisecracking character role. Ted Lange is better known as amicable bartender Issac on "The Love Boat". Teddy Wilson was later the star of the ill-fated "Sanford and Son" spinoff, "The Sanford Arms". He also appeared numerous times on the sitcom "Good Times", as Sweet Daddy, a street hustler.

I used to really like this show I was only able to experience this show in re-runs it was a good show I liked Junior he was very funny and especially Wildcat was the funniest - I wish they would re air this show it was the best! --Alesha
