Nixon Inagurated for Second TermBy Patrick Mondout
On January 20, 1973, Richard Milhous Nixon was inaugurated for what
would be an abbreviated
second term. Having won the second term in a landslide election over
George McGovern and with the Paris Peace Talks about to produce
a breakthrough, the future looked bright for the Nixon Administration.
You can read his second
Inaugural Address here.

Your Memories Shared! | | "The picture that you have shown is confusing to me. I was in the United States Naval Academy Glee Club. We were positioned directly in front of the president, as I can recall turning around and seeing President Nixon's feet. Why isn't the choir shown in that photo? Instead, it looks live the Navy Band with
a small space between the band and the president. Could that photo be his first inaugauration? Incidently, President Nixon was flown to Annapolis to give my class (1974) a graduation speech. His heliocopter landed smack in the middle of the stadium, to avoid the IMPEACH NIXON protest taking place just outside the gates!! [Editor's note: Memory can play tricks on us. The photo above is the correct one. If you take a look at the National Archives photos of the 1969 inauguration, you'll see Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and President Johnson standing near Nixon and Burger. They are not present in this, the 1973 photo. You must be just to the left or right of the field of view in the photo.]" --Greg Ellsworth |
